The Troupe

The Gems of Egypt are my performing troupe. Named for the first members Crystal and Amber, the Gems of Egypt have been a respected performance troupe in Northeast Ohio for more than two decades. Many Alumni have gone on to dance professionally. Gems Repertory includes Egyptian belly dance, Middle Eastern Folkloric dances, Greek cabaret belly dance, and flamenco. The Gems of Egypt perform at weddings, benefits, and haflas.

Classes

Classes at the Yoga Place in Canton, OH

I teach both Advanced and Beginning belly dance at the Yoga Place and Yoga Central. All of my students are taught how to be muscularly precise and to feel explore expressiveness in the music. We go beyond dance steps to understand the words and feelings behind the music. We will of course work on proper alignment and stamina that will enable the student to become a well rounded performer in Raqs Sharqi and Egyptian folkloric dance. Special props that will be used in class will be provided if needed such as ballas, zills, assaya, veils, and melaya.

Collaborations

I began working with Tribal Fire's, Shanrae Sahira in 2015, on choreography combining both Egyptian and Tribal Fusion technique. This collaboration has helped dancers in both troupes cross train in different styles of belly dance.
